MEET DENNIS
Strengthen Timnath Through Smart Growth and Responsible Spending
Dennis Strachota is prepared and ready to serve his community as a member of the Timnath Town Council. Already active in Timnath civic life, Dennis will draw on his extensive knowledge and practical experience in public finance and local government to help steer our rapidly growing community in a positive direction.
Dennis’s interest in public service and his penchant for hard work began early on his family’s farm and growing up in a small Wisconsin town. Life on the farm started early in the morning with chores and ended late at night with school homework. After his family moved to a small town, Dennis took a keen interest in community issues, attending council meetings, working on political campaigns and supporting local causes.
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Dennis began his 40-year career in budget and financial management for local and state governments at staff and executive levels. As a nationally recognized expert, he also was a financial management consultant and trainer for the Government Finance Officers Association, for which he authored and edited publications widely used by local government finance officials, public finance consultants and the academic community in the U.S. and other countries.
Along the way, Dennis earned a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University and taught public budgeting and finance for graduate schools of public administration in Oregon, California, North Carolina and Colorado.
Now retired from full-time work, Dennis is adjunct faculty at the University of Colorado Denver School of Public Affairs and is an active member of the Timnath community. He graduated from Timnath’s Citizen Academy in 2024 and currently serves on the Trailside Metro District board. He is a former board member of Together for Timnath, where he was a leader in efforts to create a vision for a revitalized Main Street. He was also instrumental in the passage of ballot measure 3A, which will finance a recreation center in downtown Timnath.
Dennis and his partner, Vicki, have lived in Northern Colorado since 2019 and moved to Timnath in 2023. He is an avid hiker, biker and college sports fan.
